Group lauds UNIBEN over deployment of ICT learning platforms

4 min read
The Initiative for Leadership and Economic Watch in Nigeria (ILEWN) has commended University of Benin (UNIBEN) over its move to address the skill gap in the country through the massive deployment of Information Communication Technology (ICT) platforms and facilities to boost learning.
The National Coordinator of the group, Mr Splendour Agbonkpolor, who gave the commendation while briefing newsmen in Abuja, said Nigeria still lags behind many other nations because of poor attention to education by past administrations.
His words: “Nigeria has failed to take-off as a genuine world power because of the persistent neglect of education.
“This has led to the production of poor quality manpower that cannot meet the skill requirement of the country.
“It is pertinent to point out that the Buhari led administration is set out to correct the ills of the system that had been so bastardised that we had to import low level skilled workers from neighbouring countries to do even the most basic tasks.”
While saying that UNIBEN’s Network Operating Centre has been upgraded to world class standard that can take up to 155mb per second to raise large number of qualified manpower, Agbonkpolor said the university’s engineering faculty had been retooled with modern instructional equipment in order to develop indigenous technology.
Agbonkpolor also commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu for the quiet revolution in the education sector, just as he called in other institutions in the country to study and emulate the strategies used to turn around the fortunes of UNIBEN.
‘’We commend President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu for the quiet revolution being carried out across board in the education sector in Nigeria and urge other stakeholders to join hands with the management of UNIBEN and other looking forward to build the minds that will rebuild Nigeria,” Agbonkpolor said.
